Tongue tantalising food, talented chefs and a whole heap of fun are on the menu as the Halifax Food and Drink Festival returns for its fifth year on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June. Delivered by destination marketing and town centre management organisation Marketing Halifax, this year will see the festival take place in a brand new location and for the first time ever it will be a free entry event.

Taking place on Southgate and Russell Street which are located around the town’s Halifax Borough Market, this exquisite Victorian grade II listed building provides the perfect setting for a food festival extravaganza along with an atmosphere and experience that cannot be matched!

A mouth-watering array of more than 60 stalls will be available serving delicious regional fare, hot food, ales and cider from some of the region’s finest producers. This will be in addition to the offering at the Halifax Borough Market where visitors will find everything from locally sourced food, hardware and perfume to flowers, lingerie and exotic produce to name but a few.

The ever popular festival cookery theatre kitchen will also return with sizzling chef demonstrations from some of Calderdale’s home grown talent, along with a few more familiar faces from prime time TV!

Ben Varley of The Rock Hotel, Halifax and former contestant on BBC’s Masterchef: The Professionals, Lee Marshall of Design House Restaurant, Dean Clough, Timothy Bilton of The Butchers Arms, Hepworth and BBC’s Great British Menu, Matthew Benson-Smith of The Cooking School at Dean Clough and Former Chef to the Prime Minster, The Raman Family – winners of The Hairy Bikers Cook-Off 2010 and Tom Rennolds 2012 Masterchef Finalist are just a few of incredible chefs we have to look forward to.

What’s more there’s plenty of family fun to be had too through the mixture of free cooking workshops on offer. Supported by NHS Calderdale and promoting Change4Life, the festival will have its very own mobile cooking bus giving families the chance to take part in hands-on practical cooking activities that will help visitors to eat well, move more and live longer.

Michay Matthews, Marketing, Events and Membership Manager, said: “We are delighted that we have finally been able to deliver a free festival for both residents and visitors alike. This year’s event is guaranteed to be a fabulous event for food and drink lovers everywhere and we look forward to welcoming newcomers into Halifax to enjoy the festival and sample the delights of our fantastic town centre.”

With more exhibitors and visitors expected than ever before, the food and drink festival is an un-missable event for anyone who enjoys feasting on the best that Britain has to offer. The Olympic Torch Relay will also be passing through the town during the festival weekend, making it a fantastic day out for all of the family.
